"On the Road Again" - FL to MI

This "going down memory lane" is been really fun! I'm really glad I wrote all this stuff down as it was going on though. (And that Regina was making good use of her camera too!) Who would remember all the tiny details that are so fun to be going through right now?

Have a few more things to share about my time with Regina. One thing about vacations? You have to go back home again! So, here are my journal entries for our adventures by car .. traveling from Florida back to Michigan. Took us 2 days to do it and we went through more U.S. states again!

On the Road - Feb 24th & 25th

Friday

Well goodbye, Disneyworld. I hope to visit again.

Everyone decides that today we will drive until we can't drive anymore. Here comes Georgia, and Regina takes over for the next 5 hour drive while everyone sleeps. 65 miles of construction, can you believe it? Georgia was our longest state to drive through. On to Tennessee. Mark takes over and I watch the Incredibles movie. (I'm impressed that you human beings can bring movies right along with you in your cars. Wow!)

We finally stop in Corbin, Kentucky at 11:30 pm. Regina's father grew up near here in Middlesboro and she really wanted to steal the car and go down the road to see the old home area, but was exhausted. So hard to be so close and yet so far away. But, her family is just interested in getting home. So, no more stops other than for gas and food.

Saturday

McDonalds for Breakfast and we're off again on the last leg of our journey. We make one stop off the expressway in Kentucky so that Regina could visit her grandparent's cemetery. It was right off the exit, so it worked out well. 1998 was the last time she was there and that was for the funeral of her grandfather. She was having surgery when her grandmother passed in 1999 and was unable to travel to the funeral. Her aunt, a cousin and Great Aunt are also there. I like seeing how much you folks care about your ancestors. It was nice to see Regina visit her ancestors at the cemetery.

2:45 pm and we entered MICHIGAN! At 3:30, we pull in. We're home! Now, to get everything unpacked. (We did - right there and then). The family is exhausted and quickly familiarizes themselves with their beds. I'll have to think about packing up my own stuff soon to head to my next destination. It'll be sad to leave, but I know I have more adventures to come.

I've heard we have another day of adventures tomorrow here in Michigan, then I'll be on my way to Wisconsin! Amazing journey!

Heading for some sleep now ...
Heri
